Meet our new
Assistant Priest
Fr. Jorge Mairena
The weather was good, parishioners were pouring into St. Mary’s Cathedral thick and fast, and Fr. Jorge stood at the precipice of ordination after ten years of priestly formation. An event to remember, Fr. Jorge’s priestly ordination was an evening of prayer enriched by the beautiful Latin American music and energy of the Neocatechumenal Way.
If things couldn’t get any better, we received the wonderful news that Archbishop Fisher appointed Fr. Jorge as Assistant Priest to our parish of St. Michael’s for a period of three years. This marvellous news means that we get to keep the deacon turned priest who we love, and it means that God is giving us a fruitful period of growth and new possibilities.
I ask you to keep Fr. Jorge in your prayers as I know he prays for you.

Meet our Priest
Welcome! My name is Fr. Mark Anderson and I am the resident priest here at St. Michael’s Lane Cove. Born and bred in Sydney, I was ordained a priest in 2022 and in January of 2025 was appointed to St. Michael’s.
The Lord is doing wonderful things here in Lane Cove. We are a Christ-centred parish whose desire is to love God and our neighbour, living lives as His disciples for the salvation of souls. Our parish is very prayerful, warm and friendly, we have lots of groups, events and outreach, and enjoy the company of many families.
Please know that whenever you enter a Catholic Church you are always amongst friends and you are always welcome in our parish. If you are from a different faith tradition and are exploring the Catholic faith, we are here to help you and we want your experience to be rich and rewarding. And so, we hope to see you soon and look forward to meeting you.
Children’s Liturgy
A bit like Sunday-School, Children’s Liturgy is a half-hour class for children that runs during the Mass giving the children an activity, and Mum and Dad a short period of respite.
At the beginning of Mass, Father invites the children to follow the leader over to the parish hall where our Children’s Liturgy supervisors read to the children and lead them in a craft activity. When the class is over, the supervisors escort the children back to the church to rejoin their parents.
Children’s Liturgy runs throughout the school term at the 9:30am Sunday morning Mass.
Sydney Synod 2026
His Grace, Archbishop Anthony Fisher, has convoked a diocesan Synod for Sydney between the 30 April to 3 May 2026 to address the Holy Spirit-inspired longings communicated by the People of God in Sydney after many years of consultation, Archbishop’s convocation letter.
The Archbishop is seeking positive, practical and faithful ideas on how we can make our Church in Sydney more vibrant through three, repeated longings: for more prayerful liturgies; more Christ-centred communities; and to be more mission-oriented.
You are invited to get involved by discussing these longings within your communities, and then by bringing your ideas on how these longings can be met to our regional consultations. Find out more and register for consultations by clicking the button below.
Join us as we pray, discern, and act with the Holy Spirit to continue to build God’s kingdom on earth.

What is Eucharistic Adoration?
Eucharistic Adoration is the practice of prayer and the worship of our Lord Jesus who in a mysterious way is truly present in the Eucharist.
In a miracle which has fascinated mankind for two-thousand years, when a priest prays the words of consecration during the Mass, bread and wine miraculously change into the Body and Blood of Christ—while maintaining the appearance of bread and wine.
The Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist is something that ‘cannot be apprehended by the senses…but only by faith,’ writes St. Thomas Aquinas.
During the stillness and silence of Eucharistic Adoration, intense rays of divine love radiate from our Blessed Saviour and penetrate the souls of those present.
