Reconciliation

Those who approach the sacrament of Reconciliation obtain pardon from God’s mercy for the offence committed against Him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labours for their conversion.

Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1422

Eligibility

Eligibility for First Reconciliation (First Confession) requires that children are baptised in the Catholic faith and are in Year 3 or above.

Commitment & Formation

In preparation for First Reconciliation all candidates are required to:

  1. Attend a formation session which includes a learning activity, Commitment Mass, information for parents followed by pizza in the parish hall.

  2. Attend three Reconciliation formation sessions, each beginning with Sunday Mass at 9:30am followed by a parent & child Reconciliation lesson in the parish hall.

Attendance

Full attendance is expected. Missing the Commitment Mass or a lesson will delay First Reconciliation until the program runs again next year. We consider the spiritual formation of the children more important than other commitments, and we trust that parents recognise this too.
